Shape sets where the sweet spot sits and how forgiving the face feels. Round profiles keep a large, centered sweet spot, best for control and newer players. Teardrop (hybrid) lifts the sweet spot slightly for a mix of power and precision. Diamond pushes the sweet spot high for aggressive smashes, but asks for cleaner contact. Skill level is the first filter. Beginners usually want forgiveness: rounder heads, softer materials, easier handling. Intermediate players often move to hybrid shapes and firmer cores as technique settles. Advanced attackers lean into diamond silhouettes and stiffer carbon for explosive overheads. Play style still matters. A defensive specialist may stay control-oriented even at a high level.

Most adult rackets sit roughly between 340g and 390g. Lighter frames (about 340–365g) move faster and spare the arm, useful for beginners, doubles exchanges, and players managing wrist or elbow load. Mid weights (about 360–375g) balance punch and control. Heavier frames (about 370–390g) add stability and smash power, but need strength and clean technique to stay comfortable over long sessions.

Balance is where mass sits along the frame. Head-light (low) balance feels agile and precise, strong for defense and net speed. Head-heavy (high) balance loads the tip for more smash momentum, with less maneuverability. Even / mid balance sits between those poles for all-court play. Shape and balance often travel together: round tends low, diamond tends high, teardrop tends mid.

Fiberglass faces are more flexible and forgiving, a softer touch that helps while you build consistency. Carbon faces are stiffer and more durable, transferring energy cleanly for power and precision once your contact is reliable. Soft EVA / foam cores absorb vibration and feel plush; medium EVA is the everyday balance of pop and control; harder EVA is firmer and more explosive on clean hits, with more feedback to the arm.
