Fiberglass vs carbon fiber in padel

Fiberglass faces are more flexible and forgiving; carbon faces are stiffer and transfer energy more cleanly once your contact is reliable. Foam/EVA softness changes vibration and pop as much as the face. Racketscape fiberglass builds typically run PKR 28,000–40,000 and carbon PKR 40,000–70,000.

Most padel rackets put either fiberglass or carbon fiber on the hitting face. That choice drives how the racket feels on contact, how stiff it is, and how well that feel holds up over months of play.

Before you buy (or build), read the face material first. It matters more than marketing names on the throat.

Fiberglass

Comfort and give

Fiberglass faces use intertwined glass fibers. They usually feel more comfortable and forgiving, with a bit more “trampoline” on the ball. That plush feel is why many newer players like them.

The trade-off is durability of feel. Over time those fibers can break down. The racket can start playing differently from the one you first loved. Fiberglass builds also tend to sit at the more accessible end of the price range.

Some rackets use a hybrid face (fiberglass mixed with carbon). That sits between pure fiberglass and full carbon: a step up in structure without jumping straight to a stiff carbon face.

Structure that holds

Carbon faces are typically more resistant and can be built lighter for the same stiffness target. The big practical win: the face structure holds up better, so the feel you buy is closer to the feel you still have months later.

If you play often and care about a consistent response, carbon is usually the better long-term bet.

Carbon grades

What 3K, 12K, 18K mean

Carbon weave is often labeled with a K number: 3K, 6K, 12K, 18K, and sometimes higher. The K is about how many filaments sit in each bundle of the weave.

Higher K usually means a more rigid face: less give on contact, more of a solid, controlled response. Lower K usually means more flex and a softer hit. Go very high and the face can feel extremely stiff. That is not automatically “better.” It has to match your level and swing.

Foam and EVA matter too

The face is only half the story. Inside, many entry fiberglass rackets use a soft foam core that feels light and flexible, but can also break down and change the racket over time.

Carbon faces are often paired with EVA foam. Soft EVA adds give and comfort. Harder EVA firms up the hit and, for many advanced players, supports cleaner control. Pair a stiff high-K carbon with a hard EVA and you get a very solid, low-flex response. Pair softer EVA with a lower-K face and you keep more cushion.

Face + core together decide the shot. Changing only one changes the whole racket.
