Spec
Padel racket weight, overgrips, and balance
Direct answer
Racket weight is not a badge. Extra grams in the head slow the face; extra overgrips add mass in the handle and can pull the balance back. Spec for a long match, not a single smash. Most adult frames sit roughly between 340g and 390g before your setup.
Players argue about grams the way they argue about brands. The useful question is simpler: can you get this face to the ball, on time, for a full session, without your forearm complaining.
Most adult padel rackets sit roughly between 340g and 390g out of the mould. Lighter frames (about 340–365g) move faster and spare the arm. Mid weights (about 360–375g) balance punch and control. Heavier frames (about 370–390g) add stability on the smash, but they ask for strength and clean technique.

Balance is not the same as weight
Balance is where mass sits along the frame.
Head-light (low) balance feels quicker at the net. It helps defence, volleys, and players who get the racket late. Head-heavy (high) balance loads the tip for smash momentum, with less manoeuvrability. Even / mid balance sits between those poles for all-court play.
A light racket that is very head-heavy can feel slower than a slightly heavier, more even frame. That is why “just buy lighter” is incomplete advice.
Shape and balance often travel together: round tends lower, diamond tends higher, teardrop tends mid. At Racketscape those map to Pure Round, Attack Diamond, and Hybrid Teardrop.
What overgrips actually do
Each layer adds thickness and a little weight in the hand. That can calm a slippery grip and slightly shift balance toward the handle. It is useful. It is not free.
One or two overgrips plus a protector can add around 15–20 grams compared with the factory number. That is the real weight you will move for an hour and a half. Too many layers and you lose the connection to the handle shape.
If your elbow, shoulder, or forearm already hurts, do not start with anti-vibration marketing. Start with a racket you can manoeuvre for the whole match. Then talk foam and face.
Tennis players often overestimate padel weight
The cage shrinks reaction time. A “tournament weight” you could swing on an open tennis court can feel late when the ball comes off glass. A slightly lighter, better-balanced custom frame often beats a heavier one you cannot prepare in time.
How to spec it in a consultation
We ask whether you live at the net, how you miss, and what hurts. Then we pick a weight and balance window — including whether fiberglass or carbon belongs in the conversation. Fiberglass custom typically PKR 28,000–40,000; carbon PKR 40,000–70,000.
Write down the weight of your current racket with grips if you can. That number is more useful than a screenshot of a tour player’s unstrung spec. Padel rackets are not strung, but the idea is the same: measure the tool you actually hold.
