Official padel racket size, holes, and the wrist cord
Direct answer
Under FIP rules a padel racket’s head plus handle cannot exceed 45.5 centimetres, with a maximum width of 26 centimetres and thickness of 38 millimetres. The hitting face is perforated, and a non-elastic wrist cord no longer than 35 centimetres must be worn. Custom rackets are designed inside those limits.
You can customise foam, face, and balance. You cannot customise past the official size envelope. That is why a “tennis-length padel racket” is not a real product under the rules.

Size limits
The racket has a head and a handle. Total length of head plus handle may not exceed 45.5 centimetres. Maximum width is 26 centimetres. Maximum thickness is 38 millimetres (with a small measurement tolerance on thickness). Handle length is also capped (maximum 20 cm in the rules).
Those numbers keep padel from turning into a different implement. Shape — Pure Round, Hybrid Teardrop, Attack Diamond — is how we use the space inside the envelope, not a way around it.
Holes
The hitting surface is perforated. In the centre, holes are cylindrical and within a stated diameter range (9–13 mm). Near the edge, holes may be larger or a different shape, with limits so they do not change the nature of the game. Both faces must be flat; they may be smooth or rough.
The holes are functional: they affect aerodynamics and mass. They are also why a padel racket does not look like a tennis racket.
Wrist cord
A non-elastic cord, maximum 35 centimetres, is fixed in the handle and must sit around the wrist. Its use is obligatory. It is accident prevention. Dropping the racket or breaking the cord during a point costs you that point.
Gadgets that light up, make sound, or coach you mid-point are not part of a legal frame. Neither are reflective surfaces that would disturb play.
